Free foreign language books giveaway

Once a year, the plaza hosts a free giveaway of books that are ready to retire from the Foreign Language Book shelves. ‘I no longer need this book because I’m moving!’ ‘I want others to read it, too!’ – regardless of the reason behind the donation, the giveaway serves as a great opportunity to find the books new homes.

The previous events for foreign language books

OITA WORLD FESTA, Sat, Oct 26, 2019

The plaza took part in the OITA WORLD FESTA 2019, an event hosted by Oita City at 3F of Compal Hall on Sat, 26th October, 2019. We greeted many visitors at our foreign language book giveaway event, during which 109 foreign language publications (out of which 37 were English newspapers) were passed over to 47 visitors, while new donations came in. We are truly grateful to all our donors, and will ensure that the donations are put to good use. There was quite a crowd at the event booth, with everyone showing a great deal of enthusiasm. The experience was memorable, with fun conversation in a light-hearted atmosphere. Many visitors felt that the giveaway books would be useful in their persuit of learning a foreign language. We felt a sense of meaning in our efforts, and were pleased to have received comments in the feedback questionnaires such as ‘It’s great to learn about various places around the world’ and ‘I’m aiming for the Nobel Prize’. We hope that this event proved an opportunity for visitors to broaden their global outlook and enrich their lives. The donated books are available for loan at the Oita International Plaza, and each person can borrow up to 10 at a time for a duration of two weeks. Foreign language books that are ready to retire from our shelves are passed onto new owners at no cost. If you have books written in foreign languages that you no longer need at home, we would be grateful for any donations.
